We are looking for a reliable and patient female Personal Assistant to support a young male adult, a sociable man living in East Kilbride, with his daily routine and community activities.
The young man you\'ll be supporting enjoys watching TV at home and going out to bingo, drama, Indepen-dance and Disco Buddies. He is non-verbal and fully understands what is being said, so it is important that his PA communicates directly with him, gives him time to respond and supports him as an adult.
The role involves providing full support with day-to-day activities, including support with getting ready, eating, medication and attending social and community activities.
A typical shift will begin with personal care, hoist support, breakfast and medication, followed by washing and dressing. The PA will then support him to attend his planned activity, assist with lunch, return home and provide any further personal care required.
We are looking for someone dependable, patient and sociable who can communicate well with a non-verbal person, allow plenty of time for meals and always treat the person you\'ll be supporting with dignity and respect.
A valid driving licence is required to drive his automatic wheelchair-accessible vehicle.
Previous care experience is welcome, and moving and handling training may be required for someone new to the profession. Shadowing with a parent or existing carer will be provided.
This post is open to female applicants only due to the personal care requirements of the role and his needs. This is a genuine occupational requirement in accordance with Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010.
Please note that the person you\'ll be supporting is very frightened of dogs and cats. There are no pets in his home.
This position offers 16 hours per week, from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm on Thursdays and Fridays. The successful applicant will also be expected to provide holiday cover for the other carer when required.
