Job description

Changing Lives is a nationwide charity helping people facing the most challenging circumstances to make positive change — for good. We believe that everyone deserves a safe home, a rewarding job, and a life free from addiction or abuse. With the right support, anyone can change their life for the better.

Our services across the country assist thousands each year who face challenges such as homelessness, addiction, unemployment, criminal justice involvement, sexual exploitation, and domestic abuse. We focus on individuals' strengths, potential, and opportunities to help them overcome their problems and lead safe, successful, independent lives.

Our charity is powered by over 600 passionate colleagues in a diverse and inclusive environment. Many team members have lived experience of the challenges faced by those we support. We seek committed and compassionate professionals who share our enthusiasm for changing lives.

About the Service - Housing & Homelessness Services

A safe home is the foundation for building a better life. We support those experiencing or at risk of homelessness, providing specialist accommodation and outreach services for rough sleepers, veterans, domestic abuse survivors, women, and young people.

We believe accommodation should be more than just shelter; it should be a welcoming environment that encourages development. Join us to make a difference and support individuals on their journey toward a brighter future. At Changing Lives, we offer a home, not just a shelter.

About the Job

Changing Lives supports young people to develop independent lives. We operate a 24-hour supported accommodation service in Sunderland and are seeking an enthusiastic Support Worker to join our professional team. Harbour View is a 9-bed supported accommodation for young people who have experienced homelessness.

This role is ideal for someone willing to support and advise young people, sharing best practices to ensure they receive the high level of support they deserve.

The successful candidate will have experience in direct work with young people, including support planning, child protection, risk assessment, referral processes, and housing management.

You will join a passionate team of support workers and assistant support workers dedicated to providing the best support and supporting each other.

Training will be provided on all aspects of the role. You will have regular 1:1s for support and sharing positive experiences, as well as a comprehensive induction into Changing Lives and Harbour View.

The core of your role will be supporting young people to develop independent living skills and live flourishing lives. This includes delivering workshops or referring to external agencies as needed.
