Through our specialist rehabilitation centres, hospitals and community-based services, we help people regain skills, develop independence and achieve their personal goals.

Our colleagues are passionate about the work they do, and you'll find a strong team spirit across our services, with people who support one another and take pride in the care they provide.

We are looking for a Support Worker to join our friendly team at Shinewater Court in Eastbourne on a part‑time or full‑time basis.

This is a great opportunity for someone with experience in care, whether you've worked as a Support Worker, Healthcare Assistant or within a complex care setting, and would like to continue developing your skills in a supportive residential environment.

About Shinewater Court

Shinewater Court is a specialist residential service in Eastbourne, providing accommodation and personalised care for adults living with complex physical disabilities and additional care needs.

Our residents require varying levels of support with everyday activities, mobility and personal care. We focus on creating a comfortable, welcoming home where individuals are treated with dignity and respect, encouraged to make their own choices and supported to live as independently as possible.

You’ll be joining an experienced team who work closely with residents, their families and healthcare professionals to provide consistent, person‑centred care.

About the Role

As a Support Worker at Shinewater Court, you’ll provide practical and personal support to residents with a range of physical disabilities and complex care needs.

Personal care is an important part of this role, so you’ll need to be comfortable assisting residents with their daily routines, including washing, dressing, hygiene and mobility, while maintaining their dignity and independence.

You’ll also spend time getting to know the people you support, understanding their individual preferences and helping them enjoy their everyday lives.

Key Responsibilities

Person‑Centred Care and Support

  • Provide personalised care and support in line with individual care plans.
  • Assist residents with personal care, hygiene, dressing and daily living activities.
  • Support residents with mobility and moving and handling, using appropriate equipment and training.
  • Encourage residents to make their own choices and maintain as much independence as possible.

Independence and Daily Living

  • Help residents maintain everyday living skills and participate in activities they enjoy.
  • Support social interaction, hobbies and community activities where required.
  • Promote a comfortable, welcoming and homely environment.

Health, Safety and Wellbeing

  • Monitor residents' physical and emotional wellbeing, reporting any concerns appropriately.
  • Assist with medication administration following relevant training and procedures.
  • Follow safeguarding policies, individual risk assessments and health and safety guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate care records and communicate important information during handovers.

Teamwork and Communication

  • Work closely with colleagues, Team Leaders and healthcare professionals to provide consistent care.
  • Build positive relationships with residents, families and other support networks.
  • Contribute to team meetings, care reviews and effective shift handovers.
  • Act as a Keyworker for designated residents where required.

About You

We’re looking for someone who is caring, reliable and confident providing practical, hands‑on support to adults with physical disabilities and complex care needs.

Previous experience in a care environment would be beneficial, particularly if you’ve worked as a Healthcare Assistant, Care Assistant, Support Worker or in a similar role.

Ideally, you’ll have:

  • Previous experience in health and social care, residential care or complex care support.
  • Experience or an understanding of providing personal care and supporting people with physical disabilities.
  • Good communication skills and a patient, respectful approach.
  • An understanding of safeguarding, dignity, confidentiality and person‑centred care.
  • The ability to work well as part of a team and use your own initiative.
  • A willingness to undertake training and develop your care skills.
  • An NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care, or a willingness to work towards this qualification.

You’ll need to be comfortable providing personal care and available to work a shift pattern of 7am – 2pm or 2pm – 8pm, including alternate weekends.
