Job description

Do you have a caring nature? Are you looking to make a difference in people's lives? Do you want to work in an environment where no two days are the same? Are you flexible with your working hours? Can you see yourself providing care to adults who need your support?

If you answered yes to these questions, we would love to hear from you.

At Turning Point, we support people with Learning Disabilities across England.

As a Support Worker, you will make a real difference in residents' lives by helping to improve their daily living skills. If you are passionate about people, you will enjoy the scope and support to enhance your own life and career as you gain experience and training to progress with us.

Where will I be working?

We provide support for adults with learning disabilities and physical disabilities.

You will adopt a person-centred approach in all aspects of the clients' lives, including managing their homes, providing some personal care, helping them access local community facilities, and maintaining contact with important people in their lives. Our services are tailored to enable individuals to be as independent as possible. You will support people who have learning disabilities, Autism, and other health conditions. You may be asked to attend GP and hospital appointments. A full UK driving license is preferable.

We use a digital social care record system to support daily recording, making your tasks easier and allowing more time to spend with the People We Support.

Shift Patterns

This is a 24-hour service, so flexibility is essential. You will work a range of shifts from 7:00 am to 2:00/3:00 pm and 2:00/3:00 pm to 9:00/10:00 pm, including sleep-ins or waking nights, and some weekends. Shift timings may vary.

Role Responsibilities

What will I be doing?

This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same. Your duties will include:

  • Promoting the independence of the people we support
  • Supporting a full range of daily activities, including cleaning, cooking, days out, or holidays
  • Organizing activities in the home and community
  • Developing residents' life skills and personal interests
  • Helping residents stay safe and healthy
  • Assisting with personal care needs
  • Supporting people with medication
  • Maintaining accurate records and contributing to service monitoring
The Ideal Candidate

What skills and qualities do I need?

While knowledge of learning disabilities and complex needs is beneficial, it is not essential. The key qualities include:

  • Being passionate, caring, and enthusiastic
  • Flexibility, patience, and non-judgemental attitude
  • Excellent team player with high energy
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as manual handling
  • Experience helping people manage anxiety (transferable skills are acceptable)

What benefits will I receive?

We offer a comprehensive rewards package tailored to support your needs, including ways to make your money go further, recognition programs, and career development opportunities.

You will receive 29 days of paid holiday annually, increasing to 31 days with each year of service, with options to buy additional holidays and spread the cost.
