City of York Council is seeking a dedicated Support Worker for the Short Break Service at Flaxman Ave. You will help adults with learning disabilities and/or autism in a six-bed, supportive environment. Role involves personal care, daily living support, and promoting independence.
The post requires compassion, integrity, and ability to work as part of a team; training and DBS checks are included, with shift patterns and allowances outlined.
We are looking for caring, compassionate and hands on people to join our team at 77 Flaxman Ave, Short Break Service for adults with a Learning/Physical Disability and/or Autism.
Flaxman Avenue is a six bedded homely environment where our customers can come for a short stay tailored to meet their needs.
Our aim for the people you will be supporting is to promote and work towards develop independence skills to have as much control over their own lives as possible.
On a daily basis, you may be involved in supporting with the following activities:
The role of Support Worker is an invaluable one: it is rewarding, complex and challenging and you will play an essential role in providing support and direct care to adults with Learning Disability and/or Autism who may display behaviours that challenge.
You will need to have good organisational skills and be able to work as part of a Team as well as being able to use your own initiative. It’s of hight importance that you have the compassion and integrity to treat people with dignity and respect.
Care experience, whether it be caring for a family member or professionally along with having is desirable but not essential as Care Certificate training will be available along with the opportunity to work towards level 2/3 qualification in care if you do not already have one.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C2: Can express themselves spontaneously at length with a natural conversational flow, avoiding or backtracking around any difficulty so smoothly that the person with whom they are conversing is hardly aware of it.
