Job description

Hub 1:2:1 Support Worker – Part-Time (Sheerness)

We all know the right job can be life-changing, but how about a job that just might change someone else’s life as well?

East Kent Mencap is a leading organisation committed to providing support and care for people with a learning disability. We believe in promoting independence and helping our Members lead fulfilling lives in their community.

We’re looking for a dedicated and compassionate 1:2:1 Support Worker to join our Sheerness Hub , providing individual support to a Member during their time with us.

What’s in it for you?

18.5 hours per week – permanent, part-time

Working up to 3 days per week

28 days annual leave per annum including bank holidays (pro rata)

Company pension

Competitive salary and benefits package , including shopping and recreation discounts, length of service holidays and sickness cover, and an employee assistance programme.

Ongoing training and development opportunities , including funded apprenticeships.

What’s the role?

This is a 1:2:1 support role , giving you the opportunity to get to know the person you support and help them make the most of their time at Sheerness Hub.

You’ll provide individual support during Hub sessions and lunchtimes , helping the Member participate, develop their independence and enjoy a positive and fulfilling experience at the Hub. The role is for 18.5 hours per week, with shifts of at least 6.5 hours falling between 8am and 8pm , across no more than three days per week.

The Member requires specific health support, so epilepsy and buccal medication training will be provided .

You might have just finished your Health and Social Care training, already be an experienced Support Worker, or have the right attitude and be keen to develop your skills.

This role requires you to be working at Level 2/NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care .

Unlike some of our Support Worker vacancies, being a driver is not essential for this role .

There’s no getting away from it, support work isn’t always easy, but there is great job satisfaction in knowing that what you do can make a real difference to someone’s life.

People with experience of supporting people with a learning disability are great candidates, as are those who have the right attitude, compassion and aptitude to provide excellent person-centred support.

It just might be the most rewarding job on the local market today.

East Kent Mencap is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
