Job description

We all know the right job can be life-changing, but how about a job that just might change someone else's life as well?

East Kent Mencap is a leading organisation committed to providing support and care for people with a learning disability. We believe in promoting independence and helping our Members to lead fulfilling lives in their community.

We’re looking for a dedicated and compassionate Support Worker to join our Thanet Hubs team, working across our Cliftonville and Ramsgate locations.

What’s in it for you?
  • 28 days annual leave per annum including bank holidays
  • Company pension
  • Competitive benefits package , including shopping and recreation discounts, length of service holidays and sickness cover, and an employee assistance programme.
  • Ongoing training and development opportunities , including funded apprenticeships.
What’s the role?

As a Support Worker at our Thanet Hubs, you’ll help people with a learning disability get the most from their time with us by planning and delivering engaging daily activity sessions. These sessions are designed to build life skills, encourage social inclusion and bring a smile to our Members' faces.

This is a permanent role working 30 hours per week, with working hours falling between 8.30am and 6pm. You’ll work across our Cliftonville and Ramsgate Hubs.

You might have just finished your Health and Social Care training. You may already be an experienced Support Worker, or you might be looking for an opportunity where you can learn, develop and bring your own life experience to the role.

You’ll need to be working at Level 2 in Health and Social Care (NVQ Level 2 or equivalent). If you don’t already have the qualification, we can support your development through an apprenticeship. We just need your commitment and desire to learn.

You’ll need to be a driver

Driving is an essential part of this role.

To drive our vehicles, applicants will need to have held a full UK driving licence for at least two years and be aged 21 or over. This post is only available to drivers with the required credentials. This is a genuine occupational requirement as permitted under Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010.

You’ll also need to be comfortable using everyday IT, including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams and email, as well as creating and amending Word documents and working with email attachments.

Could this be you?

There’s no getting away from it - support work isn’t always easy. But there’s great job satisfaction in knowing that what you do can make a genuine difference to someone’s day and their life.

People with experience of supporting people with a learning disability make great candidates, but just as important are people with the right attitude, aptitude and commitment to supporting our Members.

If you’re compassionate, dependable and ready to help people live more independently and get more from their community, we’d love to hear from you.

It just might be the most rewarding job on the local market today.

East Kent Mencap is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
