Job description

Residential Support Worker - Paignton - [SYS-16757]

Salary: £12.69 - £13.31 per hour (DoE) + £30 sleep rate (where required)

Everything you do matters

From the moment you open the door and enter one of our services, you become something more than you once were. You enter a place our young people call home, where a simple grin can brighten a day, listening can save and shape lives, and being punctual and present has a significant impact.

Walking through the door at Cambian means directly influencing the futures of the young people in our care. Asking “how was school?” is more than a routine; it’s about stability, genuine interest, and listening. It helps break barriers, unlock confidence, and shows that they are safe and valued.

Our Residential Care Workers are crucial to the development of our young residents. Challenges will arise, with lows and highs, but every step forward is a reason to celebrate. A simple “well done” can make a difference!

Our homes accommodate young people aged 8-18 from diverse backgrounds, with varying social, emotional, and mental health needs. Our goal is to create the best outcomes, helping each young person reach their full potential.

The days can be long but rewarding

You will make a genuine daily difference, ensuring minimal disruption to their lives and filling their days with meaningful interactions that others may overlook. Your responsibilities include helping them get ready for the day—whether for school or a trip to the park—maintaining a homely environment, assisting with homework, or preparing dinner. Evenings and weekends are for fun activities like gaming, board games, or trips to the cinema.

While paperwork and planning are part of the role, supporting our young people is never boring. The days may be long, but time flies, and your work truly matters.

Our appreciation for you

  • We offer the sector’s best induction, with two weeks of expert-led face-to-face training.
  • We will fund NVQ levels 3-5 if you demonstrate capability and enthusiasm.
  • Bonuses: Up to 10 sleep-ins per month, paid approximately £3,000 per year.
  • Career progression: Opportunities to advance within our organization, with many senior staff promoted from within.
  • Benefits: Membership to Pluxxee UK for discounts at major retailers, 24-hour helpline support, access to the Caretech Foundation’s matching funding and hardship grants, and after 2 years, Simply Health benefits for dental and optical care.
  • Our facilities are welcoming, with cozy interiors and supportive teams, designed to feel like home.

Be yourself

We value individuals who embody our core values: Friendly, Positive, Innovative, Empowering, and Person-Centred. These principles guide our decisions and actions to achieve the best outcomes for the children and young people we serve.

Cambian is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children in our care. All applicants must be willing to undergo an enhanced DBS check and provide references covering the past two years, including those related to working with children or vulnerable groups, and employment history going back to full-time education.
