Job description

• Sleep in rate: Paid at current National Minimum Wage (NMW)

• Waking nights: £11.78 per hour/night

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: 5 days over a 7-day period, with varying shift patterns as agreed with the Care Coordinator.

About Us

Sandant Care provide personal care and support within two specific service areas, in the Solihull area. We provide care and support for individuals in their own homes and providing supported living plus support in the community. Along with personal care, we provide housing related support services – working alongside the person to manage their home, including guidance and support paying bills, securing the home, and managing the tenancy. We strive to deliver the highest quality care standards, and outstanding service. We provide care packages for vulnerable people living within the community, supporting those with learning disabilities, autism, mental health and older people.

The Role

The role of the Support Worker is to enable and support people to live their lives as independently as they can. Helping and supporting Service Users with different physical disabilities and mental health needs to live their lives more independently and support them to reach their potential by providing both physical and emotional support. The role of a support worker is so varied - each person has unique needs, which makes the job unique too.

Main Function of the Job

  • To provide care in accordance with best practice and legislative requirements, reflecting policies and procedures and agreed standards under the directionof the Adult Service Manager
  • To support and enable Service Users to maintain skills and personal interests whilst delivering person-centred care unique to the Service User
  • To maintain skills at a current level, undertake such training and development as required from time-to-time to maintain and progress knowledge
  • To positively support and work closely with the Adult Services Manager to ensure the support service is functioning efficiently and smoothly daily.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Ensure Service Users are at the heart of care delivery and their wishes and preferences enhance their wellbeing
  • To support Service Users with all aspects of their day-to-day living, enabling them to enjoy the best possible quality of life
  • Most of the employee's work will be alone with the Service User in their home • Compassion, good communication skills and a calm and caring manner are essential for this important role
  • Ensure Care Plans and other information about how to support Service Users are followed
  • Be responsible for informing the Senior Carer/Nurse of any changes in the needs of Service Users
  • Be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of those individuals they support
  • Develop effective working relationships with other employees
  • Work in cooperation with members of the multi-disciplinary teams to maximise opportunities for people
  • If desired by the Service User, maintain and develop relationships with family, friends and other people important in their life • Seek opportunities for personal and professional growth
  • Be a role model for other Support Workers and be an ambassador for the service
  • Be professional, polite and reasonable at all times
  • Champion all relevant Sandant Care policies and procedures and audits by the team
  • Attend statutory training and any other training as directed by management
  • Understand and follow all policies and procedures relevant to the role

To be successful in this role, you must have the following skills/experience:

  • 2 years’ experience includi ng working and supporting children
  • Drivers or non-drivers
  • Ability to maintain electronic records
  • Up to date knowledge of sector specific legislation and best practice
  • Clear verbal and written English and excellent communication skills
