Job summary

Priory Group's Birches Grove in Parkend, Forest of Dean, seeks a Support Worker to join a compassionate team providing residential support for adults with learning disabilities and mental health needs. The role includes personal care and assisting residents to engage with the local community.

You will work alongside qualified staff to implement care plans and document progress; NVQ2 in Health & Social Care or equivalent preferred, with training opportunities offered.

Qualifications

  • NVQ2 in Health & Social Care or equivalent or higher recognised qualification; GCSE or NVQ2 in English and Maths.
  • Communication and personal interaction are key features; may include supporting those who use challenging behaviour or alternative communication methods.

Located in Parkend, in the Forest of Dean, Birches Grove offers residential support for four males and females with a learning disability or mental health needs. Our home is a short distance to the local village.

Our team are dedicated to supporting our residents to live a healthy, happy, independent life and access their local community.

What you'll be doing

You will be part of a compassionate team who are committed to our residents wellbeing. We take a personalised approach, using proven therapies to help people move forward with confidence and build a healthier, more fulfilling future. You will play a key part in their recovery, assisting qualified staff with the assessment and implementation of individual patient care plans, undertaking routine tasks and activities as directed or delegated to facilitate wellbeing, dignity and treatment of residents

  • Ensure that the people who use our service have any personal needs or requirements met; including personal care, participation in activities and support with daily living tasks. To support people who use our service in achieving their outcomes in the way that they choose.
  • Complete daily administration including updating person centred support & care plans, updating charts and completing accurate daily notes.
  • Maintains professional relationships whilst developing a good rapport with the people who use our service, their family, colleagues, visitors and other stakeholders.
  • Through own professional behaviour, including adhering to policies and procedures, contributes to the maintenance of safety, security and confidentiality standards.

What you'll bring to the role

Essential for the role

  • NVQ2 in Health & Social Care or related area or equivalent or higher recognised qualification. GCSE or NVQ2 in English and Maths. N.B. It is not anticipated that all new recruits to the role will have NVQ2 qualification but will commence the attainment process within six months of joining and will have a specific time period in which to qualify.
  • The problems faced by many service users may present challenging situations, which may increase the physical, sensory and emotional demands of the role.
  • Communication and personal interaction is a key feature of this role and may include the provision of support to people who use challenging behaviour as a way to communicate their needs and frustrations or who use alternative communication methods such as pictures and signing systems. This role also requires participation in and promotion of a team approach at all times, with positive and constructive working relationships for the benefit of the service user. To contribute both verbally and in writing to service user reviews and support planning.
