Job summary

Thera Group is seeking a compassionate Support Worker to join a dedicated team supporting a young man with autism and complex communication needs. You will use person-centred approaches to help him live independently, access community activities and develop new skills.

The role involves assisting with daily living, communication, mobility and routine tasks, while maintaining dignity and safety at all times. Training and support are provided.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting autism and complex communication needs.
  • Experience with behaviours of distress that may challenge services.
  • Ability to manage pica and risk.
  • Experience in personal care and moving and handling.
  • Familiarity with AAC communication systems.
  • Ability to support with complex health and support needs.

Responsibilities

  • Support daily living and maintain dignity.

We are currently looking for compassionate, patient and resilient Support Workers to join a dedicated team supporting a young man with Childhood Disintegrative Disorder, complex learning disabilities and communication needs.

A friendly young man who enjoys:

  • Swimming and rebound therapy

  • Sensory rooms, sensory gardens and sensory lighting
  • Wheelchair trampoline, swings and roundabouts

  • Scouts, sport, board games and cinema experiences

J. communicates using a SMARTBOX GRID communication system on his iPad alongside visual prompts, objects of reference, shared attention and eye contact. He thrives with staff who take time to listen, build trust and support him at his own pace.

The Role

You will support J. with all aspects of daily living, including:

  • Personal care and maintaining dignity at all times
  • Supporting communication through AAC technology and visual aids
  • Supporting community activities and hobbies
  • Promoting independence and choice making
  • Meal preparation and support with eating and drinking
  • Supporting with mobility, transfers and moving and handling proceduresFollowing Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) strategies
  • Maintaining accurate records and reports
  • Helping create a safe, structured and supportive environment
