Job summary

Rotherwood is recruiting Youth Support Workers in Burnley to support young people aged 16-18, many with complex mental health needs and challenging behaviours, helping them transition into independent living.

You will provide emotional and practical support, de-escalate behaviours, assist with life-skills, budgeting, education, and maintain detailed logs and support plans to ensure safe, person-centered care.

Qualifications

• Experience with adolescents (16–18) or vulnerable young people.
• Strong communication and de-escalation skills.
• Understanding of youth mental health and supportive approaches.

Key Responsibilities

• Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviors effectively and compassionately.
• Supporting individuals with mental health challenges, encouraging positive coping mechanisms.
• Assisting with life-skills development, budgeting, education, and daily routines.
• Maintaining detailed shift logs and support plans.

Requirements

• Previous experience working with adolescents (16-18) or vulnerable young people.
• Experience handling challenging behavior and a solid understanding of youth mental health.
• Strong communication, de-escalation, and active listening skills.
• NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care / Children & Young People (desirable, but relevant experience is key)
