Job summary

Active Care Group is seeking a compassionate Support Worker to assist an adult with complex care needs at home in Wickford, Essex. You will work as part of a two-person team, promoting independence and rehab while providing attentive, lip-reading-friendly care.

The role includes hoist transfers, catheter care, and routine monitoring, with training provided. A full UK driving licence is desirable. Zero-hours contract with consistent scheduling.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day care in a two-person team (double-handed care).

• Communicate clearly to ensure lip-reading is understood.
• Support with monitoring skin integrity as needed.

Support Worker Complex Care

We are looking for caring, reliable, and compassionate Support Workers to join a dedicated team supporting an adult with complex care needs in their own home in Wickford, Essex.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference by promoting independence, supporting rehabilitation, and enabling an individual to enjoy an active and fulfilling lifestyle.

About the Client:

• Is deaf in both ears and communicates by lip reading, so clear face-to-face communication is essential.
• Has cerebral palsy, a spinal cord injury, osteogenesis imperfecta (brittle bones), and diet-controlled borderline diabetes.
• Requires ongoing monitoring of skin integrity due to a recurring leg wound.
• Uses an electric wheelchair and requires hoist transfers.
• Has a catheter that requires routine care, including bladder washouts.
• Has access to a physiotherapy room and benefits from gentle encouragement and motivation to complete exercises.

Shifts Available:

• Day Shifts: 8:00am – 8:30pm
• Waking Night Shifts: 8:00pm – 8:30am
• Sleep-in Shifts: 8:00pm – 8:30am
  • Awake and supporting from 8:00pm – 11:00pm
  • Sleep from 11:00pm – 8:00am, remaining available if required
• Day shifts are worked as double-handed care (2:1 support).

Note: While hours are usually stable, the position is offered on a zero-hours contract.

What you'll have

• Experience in complex care is desirable but not essential, as full training can be provided.
• Confidence working as part of a two-person team.
• A full UK driving licence (desirable)
