Job summary

Turning Point in Barnsley is seeking a dedicated Support Worker to help adults with learning disabilities and autism develop daily living skills in Barnsley. You'll work a variety of shifts, supporting independence, personal care and community activities.

This bank-based role offers flexible hours across mornings, evenings and sleep-ins. You will promote safety, assist with meals, medication support, and maintain clear records to support service monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Promote the independence of people we support.
  • Support daily activities including cleaning and cooking, days out or holidays.
  • Arrange activities in the home and local community.
  • Develop residents' life skills and personal interests.
  • Help residents stay safe and healthy.
  • Assist with personal care needs and manual handling where needed.
  • Support people with medication and ensure accurate record keeping.

Job description

As a Support Worker, you will make a real difference to people's lives as you improve their daily living skills. We support adults who live with autism to develop the confidence, life skills and resilience they need to achieve their personal goals and take the next steps towards living more independently. Our aim is not simply to provide support, but to equip people with the tools, knowledge and skills that enable them to move on to less supported environments and achieve greater independence over time. Shift Patterns This is a 24 hour service, for individuals with a learning disability, therefore flexibility is essential. You will be working a range of shifts from 7:00/8:00 am to 2:00/3:00pm and 2:00/3:00 pm to 9:00/10:00pm, sleep ins or waking nights, some weekends. Please note that working hours may vary from service to service., This is a hands-on job in which no two days are the same. Your duties will include:

  • Promoting the independence of people we support
  • Supporting a full range of daily activities including cleaning and cooking, days out or going away on holiday
  • Arranging activities in the home and in the local community
  • Developing residents' life skills and personal interests
  • Helping residents stay safe and healthy
  • Assisting with personal care needs
  • Manual handling
  • Supporting people with medication
  • Ensuring record keeping is maintained to the required standard at all times and contributing to service monitoring requirements

Whilst knowledge of learning disabilities and complex needs would be beneficial, it isn't essential.

  • Passionate, caring and enthusiastic
  • Flexible, patient and non-judgemental
  • A great team player with lots of energy
  • Able to demonstrate good communication skills
  • Able to complete the physical aspects of the role such as manual handling where needed
