Job Description

Your positive attitude and passion for providing high quality care and support will be your key strengths, but you'll also have a friendly, patient and positive approach to work. You should be keen to learn and show compassion to care for the people we support.

You will provide support with day to day activities, whilst encouraging and promoting independent living. As part of our team, you’ll help people reach their potential, through both practical and emotional support, making a positive difference to their lives.

Our teams provide care and support for individuals with different conditions at Priory sites all across the UK.

It would be ideal if you have previous experience gained in a similar role. However whilst this is valuable, we are looking for individuals who display the right values and behaviours in order to make a difference to people’s lives. You should be keen to learn and show compassion to care for the people we support. Not only is full training provided, but there are numerous career pathways available to you, including our Nurse Apprenticeship program.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting with personal care tasks, such as washing, dressing, eating and personal care
  • Perform light housekeeping tasks, such as dusting, vacuuming, and changing bed clothes
  • Assistance and support to attend medical appointments
  • Observe, monitor, and record physical and emotional well-being, and quickly report any changes to senior staff
  • Encouragement to participate in social and recreational activities
  • Providing support in a way that reflects the wishes and needs of the individual you are supporting, and is consistent with their individual support plans.
  • Supporting the individual to maintain a home of their own and to lead fulfilled lives as valued and contributing members of their community.
  • You will also be expected to attend supervisions, team meetings and training and ensure that you provide good communication to your manager and colleagues.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a caring nature
  • Empathy, understanding and patience
  • Ability to work on your own initiative, and as part of a team
  • Ability to understand and follow policies and procedure
  • The ability to anticipate and respond to challenges
  • Competent in verbal and written English, with good listening and communication skills
  • A healthcare qualification is desirable, but not essential
  • You must be able to relate to people; be a good listener and communicator.
  • It is not necessary to have experience of working with people with complex needs although this would be an advantage.However, you must demonstrate an understanding of the issues faced by people with mental health and an enthusiasm for working and supporting them to take control of their lives.
  • A good basic level of education is desired.

Sandyhurst is a supported living service, offering support to four adults who are on the autism spectrum, have a learning disability, or mental health needs. This includes people who are autistic, have a learning disability or mental health needs. Our specialist support enables people to live happy and fulfilling lives in their own homes within their community. The support provided by our service is person-centred and specifically tailored to meet every unique need, underpinned by our philosophy that every individual has the right to live the life that they choose for themselves.

Disclosure

All roles will be subject to a successful disclosure at an appropriate level from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), Access NI or Disclosure Scotland, and the cost of this will be covered by Priory.
