Job summary

The Edinburgh Academy Junior School is seeking an enthusiastic Support for Learning Teacher to join the teaching team. You will work with the Learning Support colleagues to support children needing additional help, mainly in Primary 5 and 6, and contribute to curriculum delivery.

You will consult with class teachers, plan targeted lessons, and develop learning profiles while collaborating across the school to share best practices and support the inclusive ethos of the academy.

Qualifications

• GTCS registered (or ability to be) – E
• Excellent interpersonal and team working skills – E
• Commitment to personal professional development – E
• Commitment to the pastoral care of all children and developing a nurturing and attractive learning environment – E
• Experience of assessing and tracking pupil progress – E
• Experience of target setting and adapting learning programmes to suit learning needs – E
• Experience of working with children with Additional Support Needs in a primary school setting – D
• Additional qualifications in Additional Support Needs – D
• Experience of identifying and assessing learning needs using standardised testing – D
• Knowledge of A Curriculum for Excellence – D

Responsibilities

• Consult with Head of Department and Class Teachers to identify pupils who may require additional support for learning
• Plan, prepare and teach targeted lessons or provide differentiated materials to support access to the curriculum
• Collaborate with class teachers in the classroom or work with smaller groups/individuals in a Support for Learning base
• Assess, monitor, record and report pupil progress to Head of Department, Class Teachers and parents
• Compile Support for Learning profiles for individual children as required
• Liaise with external agencies and implement plans or recommendations as appropriate
• Advise on additional support materials and strategies for children with learning differences such as ASD
• Advise on additional support material for EAL pupils
