Job summary

Taff Housing Association in Cardiff is seeking an Assisting Support Officer to help young women aged 16–21 who are homeless or at risk. You will build positive relationships, work to empower residents, and support them to move into independent accommodation. You will follow service plans and safety/risk protocols.

The role involves shift work, 24/7, and a commitment to inclusive, trauma-informed care, with a focus on calm, collaborative problem solving and helping residents achieve their goals.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a care or support environment.
  • Understanding impact of trauma and psychologically informed practice.
  • Ability to respond calmly and effectively in challenging situations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Willingness to work shifts.
  • Positive approach to addressing issues and supporting residents.
  • Experience managing challenging behaviour and resolving conflicts.

Responsibilities

Job description

Assisting Support Officer colleagues to enable and empower young women who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness, aged 16–21, to make positive changes in their lives. Building positive relationships and taking a working-with approach to help residents achieve their goals and move on successfully into independent accommodation. Working a shift pattern in accordance with the service rota, covering 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Working in line with the support plans agreed by service users and their Support Officers and following safety and risk plans designed to maintain project safety.

What you'll bring to the role...
  • Experience of working in a care or support environment
  • An understanding of the impact of trauma and working in a psychologically informed way
  • The ability to respond in a calm and composed manner
  • The ability to work on own initiative, as well as part of a team
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills
  • Ability to work shifts
  • A positive approach to tackling project wide issues and responding positively to residents
  • Experience of managing challenging behaviour and resolving conflict
