Job summary

Trafford Council is seeking a Temporary Accommodation Move on Officer to support households in temporary accommodation and guide them toward a permanent offer of accommodation. You will handle move-on pathways, manage HMOs, and address rent arrears, ASB and repair issues.

About the Role

In the role of Temporary Accommodation Move on Officer, you will provide support to households placed in temporary/emergency accommodation to access a permanent offer of accommodation by ensuring all households in temporary/emergency accommodation have move on pathways in place to reduce the time spent in this type of accommodation. You will manage any HMO temporary accommodation and deal with rent arrears, ASB or repair issues.

You will empower households with the skills to lead an independent life within the community and to be able to maintain their tenancy going forward.

You will be working with a variety of challenging customer groups, including but not limited to; homeless singles and families with complex needs, people fleeing or experiencing domestic abuse, care leavers, and former rough sleepers in an environment that delivers lean and efficient services whilst delivering high levels of performance

About You

We want someone with previous experience working within a housing, homelessness, resettlement or support related service with a proven experience of working within a multi-functional team, with partners to deliver a range of services to a diverse community. You will be working

Experience of supporting vulnerable people and enabling such to move towards independent living is desirable. You will require the ability to create partnerships

with public/private sector stakeholders, providers, and landlords and have a proven track record of delivering effective solutions and excellent customer service to a diverse community.

You will have knowledge of associated regional and national community strategies and relevant legislation related to housing support and homelessness prevention, including: Housing Act 1996 as amended by the Homelessness Act 2002, Homeless Reduction Act 2017, Regulations and responsibilities on the service contained within the Children’s Act 1989, Regulations and responsibilities on the service contained within the Care Act 2014 and Principles and requirements of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) legislation

You will require excellent communication skills (verbal and written) alongside good interpersonal skills, with the ability to persuade, negotiate and influence effectively especially when liaising with other agencies to achieve the best possible outcomes for customers.

The ability to deal with people effectively and sympathetically in sometimes challenging, emotional and sensitive situations, as well as making and relaying difficult decisions in line with legislation is key.

You must have planning and organisational skills: organising casework and prioritising your own work tasks to meet deadlines and produce accurate work to a high standard with the ability to use own initiative and respond independently to unexpected problems and situations

Experience in using IT software packages (e.g. Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel) and databases is essential.

Drive, determination and excellent relationship skills are also important.
