Job summary

Ty Parc in Abergavenny is inviting applications for a Support Assistant to join our new supported accommodation project. Working waking nights with five care-experienced young people aged 16+, you will help maintain safety, wellbeing and progress toward independence.

We value trauma-informed practice, positive relationships and person-centred support. You’ll receive training, supervision and opportunities to develop your skills within a welcoming, inclusive team.

Qualifications

• Experience in a supported housing, leaving care, or similar setting.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed approaches to support.
• Up-to-date safeguarding and child protection understanding.
• Ability to work waking night shifts and stay calm under pressure.
• Understanding of the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014.

Job description

We are looking for a caring and compassionate Support Assistant to join the team at Ty Parc, our new supported accommodation project in Abergavenny, in a waking nights role.

This is a chance to be part of a new Taff service from the beginning. Every young person deserves the chance to take their next steps with confidence, and you could be one of the people who helps make that happen. You will play an important role in maintaining the safety, wellbeing and support of the residents and the accommodation throughout the night. Working waking nights, you will provide a calm, reassuring presence and respond to the needs of five care-experienced young people aged 16+ as they continue their journey towards positive and sustainable change.

What You’ll Do...

You'll be a key part of the day-to-day delivery of Ty Parc, supporting care experienced young people aged 16+ as they move from residential care towards independence. Working waking nights on a two weekly rolling pattern, supporting colleagues to enable and assist young people aged 16+ that are transitioning from residential care to independence. By building positive relationships and taking a work with approach to help residents achieve their goals and move on successfully into independent accommodation. Following the support plans agreed by service users and their support officers and following safety and risk plans designed to maintain project safety.

What You’ll Bring To The Role...

• Experience of working in a supported housing, leaving care, or similar support setting


• Understanding of working with people who may have complex support needs, trauma or experiences of instability


• Understanding of the impact of trauma and psychologically informed ways of working


• An understanding of the Social Services and well-being (Wales) Act 2014


• The ability to respond in a calm and composed manner


• The ability to work on own initiative, as well as part of a team


• Ability to run workshops and sessions that support residents to achieve their goals and aspirations


• Up to date Safeguarding and Child Protection understanding


• Ability to work waking night shifts


• A positive approach to tackling project wide issues and responding positively to residents


• Experience of managing challenging behaviour and resolving conflict
