Job summary

Newcastle Sensory Service is seeking two Support Assistants (HI) to join a dedicated team that supports deaf children, their families and schools across the city. Roles are based in one of the ARP provisions at Benton Park Primary, Broadwood Primary or Jesmond Park Academy.

The successful candidate will have HLTA standards or an equivalent qualification, SEND experience, and the ability to work with parents and professionals.

Qualifications

  • Recent experience of working with children and young people with SEND.
  • Ability to work with parents, colleagues and relevant professionals.
  • Understanding of inclusive education and ability to work in a multi-agency team.
  • Willingness to achieve at least BSL Level 2.
  • Enthusiastic, well-motivated and adaptable with good organisational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support deaf children and young people, their families and schools across the city.
  • Work in one of the Additionally Resourced Provisions based at partner schools.
  • Collaborate with multi-agency professionals to support pupils' achievements.

SEND Sensory Service
Support Assistant (HI) - 2 posts available
Working Pattern: Term time only, 38 weeks and 5 additional training days
Hours per week: 1 x 37 hours per week, 1 x 30 hours per week

Newcastle Sensory Service is seeking to appoint two Support Assistants (HI) to join an enthusiastic team who support the achievements of deaf children and young people, their families, early years settings and schools across the city.

The appointments are to a city-wide Service with the roles initially based in one of the Additionally Resourced Provisions, at either Benton Park Primary School, Broadwood Primary School or Jesmond Park Academy.

The successful candidate will have:
  • higher-level teaching assistant standards or hold an equivalent qualification.
  • recent experience of working with children and young people with SEND
  • the ability to work with parents, other colleagues and relevant professionals.
  • understanding of and commitment to inclusive education and an ability to work effectively as part of a multi-agency team
  • willingness to achieve at least BSL Level 2
  • be an enthusiastic, well motivated and adaptable individual with good organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.
