Job summary

Littleham Church of England Primary School in Exmouth is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with complex educational and medical needs in reception. The role is a fixed term post linked to EHCP funding, commencing as soon as possible in September 2026 and full-time 31.25 hours per week.

You will deliver in-class support, including tailored interventions, build positive relationships with children, staff and parents, and work flexibly as part of a team with a nurturing

Qualifications

  • GCSE English and Maths to grade A-C or equivalent.
  • Experience in supporting pupils with SEN and complex medical needs.
  • Capable of building positive relationships with children, staff and parents.
  • Able to maintain high standards of behaviour and consistent boundaries.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to use own initiative when required.
  • Experience in a school environment is preferred.

Job description

SEN Teaching Assistant

Full time - 31.25hrs per week paid at NJC Grade C, £13.47ph

Fixed Term Temporary post to commence as soon as possible in September 2026

This is a fixed term appointment linked to EHCP funding for specific support for a pupil with complex educational and medical needs in reception.

You will provide in class support including tailored interventions and we are looking to appoint an individual with a sensitive and nurturing approach. The successful applicant will need to be flexible, communicate effectively and think creatively.

Ideally, you will:

  • Be able to build positive relationships with children, staff and parents;

  • Have excellent English and Maths skills;

  • Have high expectations of children's behaviour and be able to maintain consistent boundaries;

  • Be willing to work as part of a team and have a good sense of humour;

  • Be able to use your own initiative when required;

  • Have experience in a similar role in a school;

  • Have prior knowledge and experience of working with children with special educational needs;

  • Have experience of working with children with complex medical and educational needs.
