ABOUT THE JOB
As the Supplier Quality Engineer, you will work directly with our quality assurance and purchasing departments to analyze supplier performance to improve quality, cost, and delivery performance. You will perform supplier audits, analyze survey results, and use various testing methods, inspection, qualification, data collection, and reporting to support supplier quality within the scope of ISO 9001:2015, ISO 13485:2016, and AS9100D requirements. This role interfaces with customers and suppliers to support product qualification activities and quality management systems audits, ensuring continued excellence.
- Serve as a liaison between Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Purchasing, and Suppliers to resolve quality issues for purchased parts.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with suppliers, promoting continuous improvement aligned with industry best practices such as Six Sigma and Lean principles.
- Develop, review, and approve inspection plans to ensure compliance with standards like ISO 13485, ISO 9001, and AS9100D.
- Describe, specialize, enforce, and evaluate application elements to utilize the Epicor ERP system effectively, ensuring accurate tracking of supplier performance.
- Investigate nonconforming parts to determine root causes and support the production floor with RCCA and SCAR processes.
- Follow up with suppliers on nonconformances, evaluate risks, and initiate SCARs for high-risk issues.
- Assess and approve suppliers with Purchasing, identifying nonconforming trends to ensure only qualified suppliers are engaged.
- Monitor supplier processes and performance through audits and data review, producing metrics for management review.
- Oversee supplier activities including change management, risk assessment, and quality agreements, ensuring compliance with standards and regulations.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements in ISO 9001, ISO 13485, and 21 CFR 820, working with Regulatory Affairs to maintain documentation.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders via meeting minutes and reports on supplier quality performance.
- Recommend process improvements and participate in developing tools and processes, encouraging continuous improvement methodologies like Kaizen or Lean Six Sigma.
- Support overall quality programs to align with the company's QMS goals.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of mathematics and statistics for data analysis and process control.
- Proficiency in GD&T to interpret drawings and ensure proper inspection techniques.
- Proficiency in MS Office, especially Word and Excel, with strong data analysis and presentation skills.
- Minimum of 3 years of related industry experience in supplier quality engineering, preferably in regulated environments like Medical Device, Aerospace, or Defense.
- Auditor training/experience (preferred).
- Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015, ISO 13485:2016, and AS9100D (preferred).
- Six Sigma training (preferred) with the ability to apply its principles.
- Technical capacity to manage complex quality issues and technical specifications.
- Excellent communication skills for influencing and negotiating with stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Decisive in making quality decisions under pressure.
- Initiative, results-driven, with a focus on continuous improvement.
- High attention to detail to ensure documentation accuracy and compliance.
- Occasional travel to supplier sites is required.
