Job summary

Cancer Research UK is seeking a Retail store assistant for the Dumfries shop, responsible for Sundays and keyholder duties. You’ll help lead a team of volunteers, drive sales and fundraising, and ensure the shop runs smoothly with donated goods and stock processing.

We value strong customer service, adaptability, and team collaboration. The role requires a flexible approach to rota patterns and safeguarding and health & safety compliance in a busy retail environment.

Responsibilities

• Oversee shop operations on Sundays with keyholder responsibilities (training provided).
• Support a diverse team of volunteers to achieve sales and fundraising targets.
• Review and process donated goods and new stock.
• Generate ideas to create new income with guidance from the Shop Manager.
• Deliver excellent customer service and ensure customers feel welcome and valued.
• Maintain shop standards including safeguarding, compliance and health & safety.
• Perform physical tasks and some manual handling as required.

Department: Trading

Contract: Fixed term contract until 31/05/2027

Hours: 5– Sundays only

Location: Dumfries Shop

We’re looking for a motivated retail assistant to join Cancer Research UK’s trading team. You’ll be acting as an ambassador for Cancer Research UK and taking responsibility for the shop on a Sunday.

You’ll also be surrounded by people who are as dedicated to beating cancer as you are.

What will I be doing?

• Overseeing the running of the shop on a Sunday. This includes taking keyholder responsibility (training provided) and supporting a talented and diverse team of volunteers.
• Assisting the wider shop team in achieving sales and fundraising targets.
• Reviewing and processing donated goods and new stock.
• Coming up with creative ideas to help generate new income, with guidance from the Shop Manager.
• Using your customer service skills to make sure our customers and supporters feel welcome and appreciated.
• Maintaining shop standards regarding safeguarding, compliance and health and safety.
• There will be a varied amount of manual handling and physical activity required within the day-to-day duties of the role.
