Job summary

AMD is seeking a highly motivated Software Engineering intern/co-op to join our team in Cambridge. You will work with software engineers to build and maintain applications, while gaining hands-on experience across the software development lifecycle.

You will receive mentorship, participate in networking events, and contribute to projects that leverage AI, ML, and GPU programming. The internship runs July 1 to September 24 with a hybrid onsite work arrangement.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a UK-based university in CS/EE/CE or related discipline.
  • Familiarity with C and C++.
  • Exposure to object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, OS concepts, and multithreaded programming.
  • Experience with design and code development, Linux environments, and modern software tools.
  • Exposure to machine learning algorithms, data analysis, and computer vision.
  • Familiarity with ML libraries/frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras, JAX and/or Caffe.
  • System-level programming including kernel development and device drivers.
  • GPU programming with CUDA or HIP.
  • Cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with software engineers to build and maintain AMD software applications.
  • Receive training on the full software development lifecycle from design to deployment.
  • Develop scripts to automate parts of the software development process.
  • Learn debugging methodologies to diagnose issues at root cause.
  • Possibly contribute to technical/functional documents and reports as needed.

JOB DETAILS:


  • Location: Cambridge, UK

  • Onsite/Hybrid: This role requires the student to work full time in a hybrid work structure throughout the duration of the intern term.

  • Duration: July 1 to September 24


WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

We are seeking highly motivated Software Engineering intern/co-op to join our team at AMD. In this role:



  • We will assign you responsibilities in which you will work closely with our software engineers to build and maintain our software applications

  • We will provide training on the full software creation process, from design and built to testing and deployment

  • We will encourage you to build scripts that automate some of our software development process

  • We will help you learn debugging methodologies to investigate the root cause of software issues

  • In certain projects we may have your involvement in crafting technical/functional documents and reports as needed


WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

You are currently enrolled in a UK based University into a Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline.



  • Programming Languages: Familiarity with C and C++
    Software Engineering Foundations: Exposure to object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, operating systems concepts, and multithreaded programming
    Development Skills: Experience with design and code development, Linux environments, and modern software tools and techniques
    Machine Learning & Data Science:

  • Exposure to machine learning algorithms, data analysis, and computer vision through coursework or projects
    Familiarity with ML libraries and frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras, JAX, and/or Caffe

  • System-Level Programming:
    Exposure to kernel development (e.g., Linux kernel modules, device drivers, low-level system programming)
    Familiarity with debugging and optimizing kernel-level code

  • GPU Programming: Exposure to frameworks like CUDA or HIP for accelerating ML workloads
    Cloud Platforms: Familiarity with AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure for hosting and deploying applications
