AMD in Belfast offers a 14‑month internship for students in Electrical/Electronic, Computer, or Software Engineering. You will work across hardware and software, contributing to embedded design, scripting, and system integration with a focus on ASIC/FPGA IP design and verification.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a UK university program majoring in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering.
  • Experience with digital circuit design or embedded firmware development is desirable.
  • Experience with testing using simulation tools is desirable.
  • Proficiency in Python, Tcl, and Unix shell scripting.
  • C/C++ programming and RTL development using Verilog or VHDL is desirable.
  • Familiarity with AMD Adaptive SoC/FPGA toolchains (Vivado, Vitis, PetaLinux) and FPGA tools.
  • Experience development and debugging in Linux is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing full system solutions on next-generation Adaptive SoCs/FPGAs.
  • Contribute to designs for future FPGA and ASIC devices.
  • Receive mentorship from an experienced engineering team to enhance learning and development.
  • Work on projects spanning Aerospace & Defense, Automotive, Industrial & Robotics, and AI.
  • Gain hands-on experience with real-world applications of AMD embedded technologies.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

We are looking for a highly motivated interns with a passion for both hardware and software development, and a keen interest in how these domains interact. This role offers hands‑on experience working across the hardware/software boundary, with opportunities to contribute to embedded design development, scripting, and system integration as well as opportunities to focus on ASIC & FPGA IP design/verification. In the role you will participate in one or more of (but not limited to) the below assignments –

  • Helping to develop full system solutions on our next generations of Adaptive SoCs/FPGAs.
  • Working on advance designs for future FPGA and ASIC devices
  • You will benefit from the professional guidance of an experienced engineering team that will enable enormous opportunities for learning and self‑development.
  • You will have the opportunity to work on projects that span a range of industries, including Aerospace & Defense, Automotive, Industrial & Robotics, and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
  • This internship offers a unique chance to gain hands‑on experience with real‑world applications while learning how AMD’s embedded technologies are driving innovation across these different domains.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
  • You are currently enrolled in a UK based University in a program majoring in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or a related field
  • If you have experience with any of the following technical skills (or related areas) and are enthusiastic about this role, we strongly encourage you to apply –
  • Digital circuit design and/or embedded firmware development

  • Scripting languages: Python, Tcl, and Unix shell
  • C/C++ programming skills and/or RTL development using Verilog or VHDL
