Job summary

AMD invites motivated students to a 14-month placement in Belfast, commencing July 1, 2027 and concluding September 8, 2028. You will work onsite full time and engage in hardware/software development across embedded systems, ASIC/FPGA IP design, and system integration.

You will receive mentorship, networking events, and hands-on experience across multiple domains. The role emphasizes collaboration with AMD leaders and exposure to Adaptive SoCs/FPGA development, with assignments spanning hardware

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled at a UK-based university in a program majoring in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or related field.
  • Experience with digital circuits or embedded firmware is desirable.
  • Familiarity with languages and tools listed (Python, Tcl, Unix shell; C/C++; RTL design) and Linux is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing full system solutions on Adaptive SoCs/FPGA platforms.
  • Contribute to RTL/ASIC IP design and verification activities.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software teams under mentorship from senior engineers.
  • Engage in projects spanning Aerospace, Automotive, Industrial, Robotics and AI domains.
  • Gain hands-on experience across hardware/software boundaries and embedded design.

JOB DETAILS:
  • Location: Belfast
  • Onsite: This role requires the student to work full time onsite throughout the duration of the intern term
  • Duration: 14 month placement, students must be available to start on July 1st 2027 and finish September 8th 2028
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

We are looking for a highly motivated interns with a passion for both hardware and software development, and a keen interest in how these domains interact. This role offers hands-on experience working across the hardware/software boundary, with opportunities to contribute to embedded design development, scripting, and system integration as well as opportunities to focus on ASIC & FPGA IP design/verification. In the role you will participate in one or more of (but not limited to) the below assignments –

  • Helping to develop full system solutions on our next generations of Adaptive SoCs/FPGAs.
  • Working on advance designs for future FPGA and ASIC devices
  • You will benefit from the professional guidance of an experienced engineering team that will enable enormous opportunities for learning and self-development.
  • You will have the opportunity to work on projects that span a range of industries, including Aerospace & Defense, Automotive, Industrial & Robotics, and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
  • This internship offers a unique chance to gain hands-on experience with real-world applications while learning how AMD’s embedded technologies are driving innovation across these different domains.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
  • You are currently enrolled in a UK based University in a program majoring in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or a related field
  • If you have experience with any of the following technical skills (or related areas) and are enthusiastic about this role, we strongly encourage you to apply –
  • Digital circuit design and/or embedded firmware development
  • Testing using simulation tools
  • Scripting languages: Python, Tcl, and Unix shell
  • C/C++ programming skills and/or RTL development using Verilog or VHDL
  • AMD Adaptive SoC/FPGA toolchains (e.g., Vivado, Vitis, PetaLinux)
  • AMD FPGAs and system design tools
  • Development and debugging in Linux
