The Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Engineering team offers services from initial concept to Power Systems Analysis, Cabling, Substations, Transmission and Distribution Infrastructure, System Balancing and Compensation, Protection Systems, SCADA, Communications, Converter Station Design, HVDC Systems, and overseas links.

Job Description

In this leadership role, you will be a key member of our T&D team, engaging with clients and contributing to the successful delivery of innovative and technically challenging civil design projects within T&D.

This is a new specialist associate director role combining project management and delivery to support the growth of our UK & Ireland T&D practice.

Here’s what you’ll do:

• Provide technical expertise in civil engineering design for power transmission and distribution projects, including creating plans for substations, transmission towers, and underground cable systems, using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit.
• Support the concept to detailed design phases for projects involving substations, power stations, data centres, BESS, and renewables.
• Review engineering deliverables such as designs, reports, proposals, and drawings.
• Contribute to bids and proposals, representing the company in client meetings as a senior civil team member.
• Manage project scope, technical delivery, and client engagement for civil works.
• Participate in large programmes like the Great Grid Upgrade (GGP).
• Provide technical evaluations and problem-solving solutions, assist in proposal writing including timelines, resources, and budgets.
• Ensure compliance with safety, health, environmental, and quality standards.
• Lead project and client meetings, adhere to design management processes.
• Engage in strategic planning to grow the business.
• Mentor team members, support professional development and accreditation.
• Collaborate with global teams to deliver projects regionally.
• Ensure designs meet codes, standards, and quality requirements.

Qualifications

What we’re looking for:

• Extensive UK infrastructure engineering experience, preferably from a consultancy background.
• Civil Engineering degree, 10+ years supporting utility clients in electrical transmission, renewable energy, BESS, substations.
• Expertise in civil components like site layout, access roads, grading, drainage, interdisciplinary coordination.
• Experience with National Grid projects is a plus.
• Chartership & CDAE/CDAE certifications are advantageous.
• Strong communication skills.
