Job summary

SCOTTISH AND SOUTHERN ELECTRICITY NETWORKS is seeking an Asset Technology Standards Engineer to shape the standards for substation control systems across the network. You will lead equipment selection, testing and configuration, driving standardisation and innovation while supporting a digitised, more resilient grid.

You will develop engineering policies, ensure compliance, and apply NIS and cyber security principles.

Qualifications

• Must have extensive experience designing, configuring or commissioning substation control systems and telecontrol equipment.
• Strong OT knowledge including RTUs, telecom protocols and substation automation (DNP3/IEC61850).
• Hands‑on experience configuring industry standard control system equipment (Schneider Talus, RTU platforms).
• Proven ability to produce engineering schematics and robust technical documentation.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain technical standards, specifications and engineering policies for substation control systems.
• Design, test and approve OT solutions, creating standardised configurations for deployment.
• Lead technical assurance activities with test plans and equipment evaluation.
• Apply cyber security and NIS requirements to OT systems and infrastructure.
• Provide technical leadership to projects, driving strategy and continuous improvement.
