Job summary

RWE Renewables UK Management Ltd. is seeking a Substation Facilities Engineer to join the Electrical Components Team on an offshore wind assets program.

The role focuses on facilities, auxiliary and LV systems across development, construction and operation, ensuring safe, robust designs and effective interfaces with contractors and suppliers. You will travel nationally and internationally, support tendering, procurement and project management, and lead technical interfaces across substations,

Qualifications

• Degree in engineering required; offshore substation experience preferred.
• Several years of offshore substation experience.
• Strong design, fabrication and testing knowledge of offshore substation facilities.
• Ability to prepare technical specifications and support negotiations with suppliers and contractors.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical expertise for offshore substation facilities, auxiliary systems and LV systems across asset lifecycle.
• Develop designs covering building fabric, drainage, cable and pipework, HVAC, batteries and UPS systems.
• Prepare technical specifications and verify compliance by consultants, contractors and suppliers.
• Support tendering, contracting, procurement and project management activities for offshore substation components.
• Coordinate and monitor mechanical and electrical works at fabrication/construction sites with safety focus.
• Lead supplier prequalification, factory audits and root cause analyses following failures.

Functional area: Engineering

As a Substation Facilities Engineer, you will join the Electrical Components Team and provide specialist engineering expertise to help progress offshore wind projects through development, construction and operation. The role contributes to safe, robust and effective offshore substation designs, with a particular focus on facilities, auxiliary and low-voltage systems, while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, consultants, contractors and suppliers. The role includes national and international travel, including work at contractor and project locations as required.

About the role

• Provide technical expertise for offshore substation facilities, auxiliary systems and low-voltage systems throughout the asset lifecycle.
• Develop robust designs covering building fabric, drainage, cable and pipework systems, fire detection and protection, HVAC, small power and lighting, batteries and UPS systems.
• Prepare technical specifications and documentation, manage technical queries and verify compliance by consultants, contractors and suppliers.
• Support tendering, contracting, procurement and project management activities for offshore substation components and systems.
• Coordinate and monitor mechanical and electrical works at fabrication and construction sites, maintaining a strong focus on safety through design and asset performance.
• Manage technical interfaces with other project packages, including offshore and onshore substations, cables, foundations and SCADA systems.
• Lead supplier and product prequalification activities, factory audits and root cause analyses following component failures.
• Apply and further develop relevant standards, regulations, processes and best practices, while providing clear project reporting.

Job requirements and experience

• A university degree, or equivalent qualification, in an engineering discipline.
• Several years of relevant professional experience as an offshore substation specialist.
• Strong expertise in the design, fabrication and testing of offshore substation facilities, ideally gained with a manufacturer or offshore wind farm developer.
• Relevant project experience, particularly in preparing technical specifications and supporting technical and commercial negotiations.
• A practical, safety-focused approach and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineering disciplines, package teams, contractors and suppliers.
• Fluent written and spoken English.
• Strong communication, coordination and leadership skills, combined with a proactive and resourceful approach.
• Willingness to travel nationally and internationally; membership of a recognised professional body, experience in an international business and a valid driving licence are advantageous.
