Job summary

Practice Plus Group is recruiting a Substance Misuse Recovery Worker for HMP Lancaster Farms. The role focuses on delivering recovery services within a busy Category C prison, supporting inmates with substance misuse, mental health, and related needs.

You will manage a caseload, run group sessions, and collaborate with MDT colleagues to promote health, well-being and successful reentry into the community. The team encourages development and ongoing training.

Qualifications

• Experience in substance misuse or prison settings.
• Ability to assess and triage new entrants to a prison health service.
• Strong interpersonal skills to support patients through recovery.

• Manage a caseload of psychosocial patients with varying needs.
• Work with receptions to triage and assess new patients entering the prison.
• Deliver group sessions on overdose awareness, harm reduction and relapse prevention.
• Provide a programme of psychosocial interventions and comprehensive assessments.

• Prepare patients for release and coordinate with community services.

HMP Lancaster Farms is a busy Category C male prison, currently holding around 550 males, and expanding by another 200.

Practice Plus Group provides primary care and substance misuse services across the wings, clinic areas, inpatient facilities, and reception services.

Join the Recovery Team and empower those whom wish to make changes in their behaviour to promote health and well-being through recovery from drugs and alcohol.

This is a crucial role within the healthcare team, making a real difference to patients, and delivering outstanding care.

Hours

This is a full time role, 37.5 hours per week.

Shifts are Monday - Friday, between 8am - 7pm (shifts within these times)

Salary

This position is full time, you’ll receive an annual salary of £29,264 - £33,510 per annum.

Candidates are required to have a Legal right to work in the UK and due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.

What you’ll be doing

• Manage a caseload of psychosocial patients with varying needs, including substance misuse, mental health, trauma etc
• Work with receptions (new patients entering the prison), triaging and carrying out assessments
• Deliver group sessions on overdose awareness, harm reduction, motivation to change, relapse prevention and wellbeing
• Providing a programme of psychosocial interventions and comprehensive assessments, including SMART Recovery
• Facilitate peer led group sessions
• Provide information and advice on substance misuse, alcohol, smoking cession, blood borne viruses and safe sex practices
• Prepare patients for release and transfer
• Work closely with MDT professionals, including within the prison and the community, such as probation, external drug & alcohol services etc

Our new Substance Misuse Recovery Worker will:

• Have experience within Substance misuse, ideally a prison / secure environment, and ideally within a Recovery Worker / Practitioner role
• Have experience of working within the substance misuse multi-disciplinary framework, which includes housing, social care, health care and mental health pathways
• Have experience of managing a caseload
• Have a flexible approach, and excellent communication skills
