Role Details

As our Substance Misuse Nurse based in Bournemouth, you will provide a range of health and wellbeing, and harm reduction interventions to our clients in accordance with the agreed model of service delivery. You will deliver high standards of nursing care to substance misusers and be responsible for the assessment of care needs, development, implementation, and evaluation of care programmes.


This role is full-time and permanent, with a salary of £26,880 - £36,225 per annum. The hours of work are 37.5 per week, Monday to Friday, with some evening work as required.

Job Responsibilities

  • Advocate for clients, working closely with them to identify their physical, psychological, spiritual, and social support needs.
  • Provide high-standard nursing care in various settings, promoting health and wellbeing while maintaining a safe, caring, and therapeutic environment.
  • Participate as an active member of nursing and multidisciplinary teams, being accountable for your practice.
  • Work in partnership with other healthcare professionals, psycho-social case managers, patients, and others in delivering care.
  • Include hospital liaison, administering vaccinations and medications, and conducting health screenings such as phlebotomy, BBV screening, monitoring vital signs, withdrawal scales, and treatment compliance during detoxification.
Essential Skills

  • Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration and post-registration clinical experience.
  • Experience delivering nursing interventions in community settings.
  • Ability to conduct comprehensive assessments, including risk assessments.
  • Knowledge of safe storage, handling, and administration of drugs, especially controlled drugs.
  • Understanding of NMC code of conduct and risk management.
  • Knowledge of roles and responsibilities within agencies responding to drug and alcohol issues.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • A valid driving license and access to a vehicle.
