Job description

As our Substance Misuse Nurse based in Bournemouth, you will provide a range of Health and Wellbeing, and harm reduction interventions to our clients in accordance with the agreed model of service delivery. You will deliver high standards of nursing care to substance misusers and be responsible for the assessment of care needs, development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.

Main duties of the job

You will be an advocate for our clients, working closely with them to identify the physical, psychological, spiritual and social support they need. The postholder will work flexibly providing a high standard of nursing care in a variety of settings, promoting the health and wellbeing of clients whilst maintaining a safe, caring and therapeutic environment. As a Substance Misuse Nurse, you will participate as an active member of the nursing and multi-disciplinary teams, accountable for your practice, and work in partnership with other healthcare professionals, psycho-social case managers, patients and others in the delivery of care. The role may also include hospital liaison cover, administering vaccinations, medication, and conducting health screenings such as phlebotomy, BBV screening, monitoring vital signs, withdrawal scales, and treatment compliance for clients undergoing detoxification.

This is a full-time, permanent position with a salary of £26,880 - £36,225 per annum. Working hours are 37.5 per week, Monday to Friday, with some evening work as required.

Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration and post-registration clinical experience
  • A driving license and access to a vehicle
Experience
  • Experience delivering nursing interventions in community settings
  • Experience conducting comprehensive needs and risk assessments
  • Knowledge of safe storage, handling, and administration of drugs, including controlled substances
  • Understanding of the NMC code of conduct
  • Knowledge of risk assessment and management
  • Understanding of agencies involved in drug and alcohol responses
  • Ability to work constructively with diverse groups and individuals
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
