Job summary

Balfour Beatty is seeking an experienced Sub Agent for the NZT Project based in Newcastle to help deliver a major civil engineering scheme. You will support the Project Manager and Agent, taking ownership of sections of work and ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to high quality standards.

• Strong knowledge of construction methodologies and project delivery.

• Awareness of NEC contracts and related compliance requirements.
• Excellent communication, planning and problem-solving skills.
• Proactive approach with ability to motivate teams and deliver results.

• Preparing and reviewing RAMS, permits and construction documentation.
• Supporting commercial activities including cost control, change management and procurement.
• Building strong relationships with clients, designers, stakeholders and the wider project team.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the successful delivery of a major civil engineering project, working alongside a highly experienced team on a complex and challenging scheme. As a Sub Agent you will support the Project Manager and Agent in the safe, efficient and successful delivery of construction activities. You will take ownership of sections of work, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards.

What you'll be doing

Who we're looking for

• Previous experience as a Sub Agent, Senior Engineer or a similar role on major civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of construction methodologies and project delivery.
• Experience managing subcontractors and coordinating multiple work activities.
• A good understanding of NEC contracts.
• Excellent communication, planning and problem‑solving skills.
• A proactive approach with the ability to motivate teams and deliver results.
• HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
• SMSTS, CSCS and First Aid qualifications (or willingness to obtain where required).
