Job summary

VGC Group Ltd is seeking an experienced Sub Agent for the Bryn Station accessibility upgrade project. This nine-month contract focuses on the installation of a lift shaft and critical rail civil works on-site.

You will lead a section of works, coordinate with designers and site teams, and ensure safety, QA, and delivery targets in a busy rail environment. Rail experience and strong leadership are essential.

Qualifications

  • Strong background in civil engineering with experience in structural works and/or earthworks.
  • Previous experience working within rail environments.
  • PTS (Personal Track Safety) – highly desirable.
  • HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards, specifications, and best practices.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a section of works from planning through to successful delivery.
  • Drive site operations, ensuring productivity, safety, and quality targets are met.
  • Interpret and implement engineering drawings, specifications, and technical requirements.
  • Coordinate with designers, subcontractors, and site teams to ensure seamless delivery.
  • Oversee and manage temporary works in line with approved designs and safety standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Maintain and review site documentation including QA records, ITPs, and as-built information.
  • Proactively identify and resolve engineering and delivery challenges.
  • Support programme management, sequencing, and short-term planning in a live rail environment.
  • Mentor and support Section Engineers and junior staff where required.

Rail & Civil Engineering (Bryn Station Project)

9 month contract opportunity

Rate: £400 – £425 per day (Inside IR35 – Umbrella PAYE)

We are seeking an experienced Sub Agent to take ownership of a key package of works on the Bryn Station accessibility upgrade project, specifically focused on the installation of a lift shaft.

This role sits at the intersection of civil engineering, rail infrastructure, and temporary works, requiring strong leadership on-site alongside solid technical expertise. You will play a pivotal role in coordinating delivery, ensuring engineering compliance, and driving programme performance within a constrained rail environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage a section of works from planning through to successful delivery
  • Drive site operations, ensuring productivity, safety, and quality targets are met
  • Interpret and implement engineering drawings, specifications, and technical requirements
  • Coordinate with designers, subcontractors, and site teams to ensure seamless delivery
  • Oversee and manage temporary works in line with approved designs and safety standards

Requirements:
  • Strong background in civil engineering with experience in structural works and/or earthworks
  • Proven experience in a Sub Agent or senior Section Engineer role on infrastructure projects
  • Essential: Previous experience working within rail environments
  • Experience delivering station upgrades, accessibility schemes, or similar projects (highly desirable)
  • Solid understanding of temporary works coordination and implementation
  • PTS (Personal Track Safety) – highly desirable
  • HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards, specifications, and best practices
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform under pressure
