Job summary

Barnsley College is recruiting a dedicated Study Skills Officer to join the Student Services team in Barnsley. You will plan, develop and deliver study skills support for learners across further and higher education, working with students via appointments, workshops, and outreach activities.

You will create engaging resources and help implement a college-wide study skills approach, collaborating with curriculum teams and other learner support colleagues to raise achievement and confidence.

Qualifications

  • Level 4 qualification or equivalent.
  • Maths and English GCSE grade C/4 or above.
  • Teaching qualification such as Level 3 Award in Education and Training.
  • At least three years' experience of working with young people.
  • Experience of supporting learners one-to-one.
  • Experience of delivering group sessions and engaging presentations.
  • Experience of differentiating learning resources to meet individual learner needs.
  • Experience of building positive relationships with learners and encouraging positive behaviours.
  • Experience of using library systems and processes for book loans, laptop loans and PC access.
  • Recent experience of working in a learner resource environment.
  • Experience of collaboration with experts to scrutinise and improve practice.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop and deliver high-quality study skills support across both Further Education and Higher Education provision.
  • Work directly with students through individual appointments, workshops, drop-ins, outreach activities and events.
  • Develop engaging resources and contribute to a college-wide approach to study skills.
  • Collaborate with curriculum teams, Teaching and Learning Coaches and ALP colleagues to improve practice.
  • Support learning achievement, progression and learner confidence across the college.
