Job summary

Sumo's Lab42 team is seeking a senior engineering leader to set the engineering vision and drive the technical direction across multiple projects and engines. You will define standards, collaborate with other studios, and guide Lead Programmers to deliver high quality, scalable solutions for console, PC and mobile platforms.

This role emphasizes strong leadership, client-facing communication, and a proactive approach to AI adoption and staff mentorship, with a focus on shaping the studio's

Qualifications

• Expert knowledge of C++ and C#, with Unreal and Unity experience.
• Leadership at a senior level on major published titles.
• Ability to communicate engineering vision and risk to stakeholders.
• Experience delivering games for console, PC and mobile.
• Consultative, cross-studio influence and staff mentoring.
• Understanding of software development practices and AI adoption.

Responsibilities

• Set engineering vision, strategy and direction for Lab42.
• Define coding standards and development methodologies across studios.
• Collaborate with Technical Directors to align practices, including AI adoption.
• Own engineering delivery of projects and scope/cost discussions.
• Delegate requirements to Lead Programmers and guide scheduling and approach.
• Drive engineering quality and performance across multiple projects.
• Serve as senior technical escalation point and mentor staff.
• Lead the code team, define goals and provide constructive feedback.
• Collaborate on recruitment strategy and talent development.
