Job description

At inspiring vet care, our people are at the heart of everything we do. As the UK’s number one vet care provider, we’re trusted with the care of over 2 million animals, delivering our purpose of healthier animals and happier owners.

Here at Abington Park, we are looking for a Student Veterinary Nurse to join our team! This is a full-time fixed-term position. We see a variety of first opinion and referral cases, providing a great experience base for your veterinary nurse training.

We are situated in picturesque Northamptonshire, offering a wide range of sporting, recreational and cultural activities for all, with great links to London and Birmingham. We have a great team of 13 Veterinary Surgeons (majority of them are certificate holders), 18 Registered Veterinary Nurses, 4 Student Veterinary Nurses, 4 Kennel Assistants and a Lab Technician.

How You’ll Make a Difference

As a Student Veterinary Nurse, you will be supported and encouraged to develop both your clinical and non‑clinical skills while working towards qualification as a Registered Veterinary Nurse.

You’ll be an integral part of the practice team, supporting patient care under the guidance of Veterinary Surgeons and Registered Veterinary Nurses. You’ll gain hands‑on experience across a range of nursing duties while progressing through your training programme and developing confidence in your day‑to‑day practice.

Working Pattern

This work pattern is Monday – Friday, excluding bank holidays. There is a weekend rotation working 8am-1pm on a Saturday with time given back in lieu.

Key Responsibilities

You should be able to demonstrate your commitment and enthusiasm for the industry (through prior work experience and/or study) and have a proven track record as a hard‑working team player. A full driving licence is needed as you may be required to drive the practice ambulance to collect animals. Applicants should also be fit enough to cope with the physical demands of the role – lifting/restraining animals and cleaning.

You Might Be a Great Fit If…

You are a motivated and committed individual who is keen to learn, develop and build a career in veterinary nursing.

  • A genuine interest in animal care and welfare
  • A proactive and reliable approach, with openness to feedback and learning
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team
  • The ability to manage time effectively while balancing work and study commitments

  • Ongoing learning and development supported by experienced mentors and practice teams
  • A collaborative, values‑led culture focused on care, learning and continuous improvement
