Horizon Teachers are seeking a compassionate, organised, and motivated Student Support Officer to join a high-performing secondary academy in Westminster. This key role within our pastoral care team involves providing vital support to students throughout the school day. As the first point of contact for students needing assistance—whether medical, emotional, or behavioural—you will play a central role in fostering a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment. You will collaborate closely with students, staff, and families to ensure each young person feels heard, supported, and cared for. This position offers a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about student welfare who thrives in a busy, people-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide day-to-day first-line support for students during the school day.
• Triage students needing time out from lessons or medical assistance.
• Administer first aid and care for minor injuries and ongoing health needs.
• Communicate with parents/carers regarding student wellbeing or incidents.
• Maintain accurate records and logs of incidents, medication, and interventions.
• Assist in managing student medical plans and liaise with relevant staff.
• Enhance and maintain systems and processes to support students effectively.
• Collaborate with teaching staff, support staff, and external professionals.
• Support the creation of a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all students.
Required Qualifications & Skills
• A caring, approachable, and friendly manner with a genuine interest in student welfare.
• Strong administrative skills, including clear and concise communication.
• Confidence in improving systems, record-keeping, and support processes.
• Ability to remain calm and act appropriately in high-pressure or sensitive situations.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with all stakeholders.
• First aid training is desirable but not essential; training will be provided.
• Previous experience in a school or educational setting is advantageous but not required.
• Reliable, highly organised, and capable of working independently and as part of a team.
