Job summary

Middlesbrough College is recruiting a Part Time Student Support Mentor to provide tailored study support and targeted interventions for learners facing academic and wellbeing challenges.

You will work with teaching staff to offer one-to-one coaching, study skills sessions, and small group interventions. The role offers flexible patterns including 1 day or 2 days per week or hourly-paid arrangements.

Qualifications

• Level 2 qualification (or equivalent) in supporting students with learning difficulties/care, or willingness to achieve this.
• Grade 4/C or above in Maths and English (or equivalent).
• Commitment to undertaking relevant mandatory training.

Responsibilities

• Provide targeted support and interventions to students experiencing barriers to learning, wellbeing, or engagement.
• Work closely with curriculum and support staff to identify student needs and develop effective support strategies.
• Plan and deliver one-to-one and small group study support sessions to help students achieve their academic goals.
• Monitor and record student progress and the impact of interventions, ensuring support is appropriately documented.

Job Title: Student Support Mentor (Part time opportunities available)

Department: Adult & Community Learning

Reporting to: Curriculum Team Leader, Adult & Community Learning

Annual Leave:30 days annual leave plus statutory Bank Holidays (pro rata for contracted part-time appointments). Holiday pay for hourly-paid appointments is included within the hourly rate.

Basis: Part Time, Term Time Only (38 weeks) or hourly paid

Pension: Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)

Location: Middlesbrough, TS2 1AD

Salary:Various Opportunities available:

£3,883.95 – £4,038.13 per annum(1 day/7 hours per week)

£7,216.20 - £7,502.67 per annum(2 days/13 hours per week)

£14.24 per hour - inclusive of holiday pay (Hourly Paid positions)

The Role

We are seeking a dedicated Student Support Mentor to provide tailored study support and targeted interventions for learners facing a range of academic and wellbeing challenges.

Working closely with teaching staff, you will support students through one-to-one coaching, study skills sessions, drop-in surgeries, and small group interventions. You'll work with learners who may have identified needs such as Dyslexia or ADHD, as well as those experiencing short-term difficulties that are impacting their studies. Your support will play a vital role in helping students stay on track, build confidence, and achieve success throughout the academic year.

We are recruiting for a part-time position and are keen to attract the best candidate, so we're able to offer flexibility in the working pattern. The role could be appointed as a 1-day-per-week contract, a 2-day-per-week contract, or on an hourly-paid basis, depending on the successful applicant's availability and the needs of the service. Qualifications

Experience

• Experience of supporting young people and adults with additional learning needs.
• Knowledge or experience of working with students with learning difficulties and disabilities.

• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
