Job description

We are seeking to appoint a Student Support and Development Officer in the School of Social Sciences, Faculty of Humanities.

The Student Support and Wellbeing team is responsible for providing welfare and pastoral support, delivering mitigating circumstances, monitoring attendance and engagement, among other responsibilities within the school. The post holder will primarily oversee the Student Support and Wellbeing Team and related processes within the School of Social Sciences.

You should have strong experience in supporting welfare and a proven track record of delivering excellent student or customer experiences. Demonstrable experience in improving and developing services, ideally in a student-focused context, is essential. Excellent communication skills, leadership, and influencing abilities are required. You must also understand academic and pastoral support procedures related to postgraduate taught and undergraduate education, with significant experience in pastoral support.

Overall Purpose of the Job:
  1. Manage effectively and proactively, working with diverse stakeholders, to support student success and development, including activities tailored to undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate taught (PGT) students.
  2. Collaborate with Professional Services (PS) leaders to embed a culture of excellent service and continuous improvement, focusing on the student experience, supporting a unified PS team across organizational boundaries.
  3. Partner with senior colleagues to deliver high-quality strategies and activities that enhance the learning experience and meet the individual needs of UG and PGT students.
  4. Manage the team in delivering strategies and activities aimed at supporting UG and PGT students.
  5. Work flexibly across the University, taking on various roles and assignments as required, using principles of business partnering and collaborative working to ensure the delivery of university and local priorities, functioning as part of a single, cross-University team.
