Job Description:

We are seeking to appoint a Student Support and Development Officer in the School of Social Sciences, Faculty of Humanities.

The Student Support and Wellbeing team is responsible for providing welfare and pastoral support, as well as delivering mitigating circumstances, attendance, and engagement monitoring, among other responsibilities within the school. The post holder will primarily oversee the Student Support and Wellbeing Team and related processes and activities within the School of Social Sciences.

Applicants should have strong experience in supporting welfare, a proven track record of delivering excellent student or customer experiences, and a demonstrable record of service improvement and development, preferably in a student-focused environment. Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead and influence teams and stakeholders are essential. Candidates must also understand academic and pastoral support procedures related to postgraduate taught and undergraduate education, with significant experience in pastoral support.

Overall Purpose of the Job:
  1. Manage effectively and proactively, working with various stakeholders, to support student success and development, including activities tailored to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  2. Collaborate with Professional Services leaders to embed a culture of excellent service provision and continuous improvement, focusing on enhancing the student experience and supporting a unified PS team across organizational boundaries.
  3. Partner with senior colleagues to deliver high-quality learning strategies and activities that meet the needs of UG and PGT students and improve their experience.
  4. Lead the team in delivering strategies and activities aimed at supporting UG and PGT students' learning and individual needs.
  5. Be flexible in working across the University and undertake roles and assignments as required, employing principles of business partnering and collaborative working to meet university and local priorities.
