Job summary

Amery Hill School in Alton invites applications for a Student Support Assistant. You will guide, encourage and support pupils to thrive academically and emotionally, working closely with the Student Services Manager and the Pastoral Team to be a positive role model.

Responsibilities include mentoring, behaviour support, family liaison, safeguarding, and maintaining SIMS records, with a dedicated team committed to safeguarding and inclusion.

Qualifications

• GCSEs in English and Maths (or equivalent).
• Strong communication and ICT skills are essential.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team.

• Pastoral and Behaviour Support: Challenge poor behaviour, foster a positive school ethos, support the Inclusion Room and reward policy.
• Family Liaison: Act as a key contact for parents/carers regarding attendance, behaviour and student progress.
• Safeguarding and Welfare: Maintain safeguarding and wellbeing of students with a proactive approach.
• Operational Excellence: Assist with SIMS data, maintain records, document referrals and support wider student services.

As a Student Support Assistant, you will play a central role in guiding, encouraging, and supporting our young people to thrive both academically and emotionally. Working closely with the Student Services Manager and Pastoral Team, you will act as a positive role model, build firm and caring relationships, and create strong links between home and school.

Key Responsibilities

Mentoring & Guidance: Deliver tailored support, workshops, and strategies covering anger management, organization, revision, and social skills.

Pastoral & Behaviour Support: Challenge poor behaviour, foster a positive school ethos, support our Inclusion Room, and champion the school reward policy.

Family Liaison: Act as a key point of contact for parents/carers regarding attendance, behaviour, and student progress.

Safeguarding & Welfare: Help ensure a rigorous, proactive approach to student safety, wellbeing, and child protection.

Operational Excellence: Assist with SIMS student data, maintain accurate records, document referrals, and support wider student services.

What We Are Looking For

Qualifications: GCSEs (Grades A*-C / 9-4) in English and Maths (or equivalent).

Skills: Strong communication, excellent ICT skills, emotional resilience, and a positive "can-do" attitude.

Approach: Ability to act as a firm, fair, and caring role model who can work independently and as part of a dedicated team.

Desirable: Experience working in an educational or social care setting, previous work with families, or familiarity with SIMS.
