Job summary

Amery Hill School in Hampshire is seeking a dedicated Student Support Assistant to guide and support pupils academically and emotionally, collaborating with the Student Services Manager and Pastoral Team to create a supportive learning environment.

You will mentor students, deliver tailored guidance, support attendance and behaviour, champion safeguarding, and help maintain accurate records using SIMS while building strong links between home and school to enable every child to thrive.

Qualifications

• GCSEs in English and Maths (A*-C / 9-4) or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Mentor and support pupils with academic and emotional needs.
• Support attendance, behaviour and student progress in collaboration with pastoral team.

• Safeguarding and welfare duties as part of the safeguarding framework.

As aStudent Support Assistant, you will play a central role in guiding,encouraging, and supporting our young people to thrive both academically and emotionally. Working closely with the Student Services Manager and Pastoral Team, you willact as a positive role model, build firm and caring relationships, and createstrong links between home and school.

Key Responsibilities

• Mentoring & Guidance: Deliver tailored support, workshops, andstrategies covering anger management, organization, revision, and socialskills.
• Pastoral & Behaviour Support: Challenge poor behaviour, fostera positive school ethos, support our Inclusion Room, and champion the schoolreward policy.
• Family Liaison: Act as a key point of contact for parents/carersregarding attendance, behaviour, and student progress.
• Safeguarding & Welfare: Help ensure a rigorous, proactiveapproach to student safety, wellbeing, and child protection.
• Operational Excellence: Assist with SIMS student data, maintainaccurate records, document referrals, and support wider student services.

What We Are Looking For

• Qualifications: GCSEs (Grades A*-C / 9-4) in English and Maths (orequivalent).
• Skills: Strong communication, excellent ICT skills, emotionalresilience, and a positive "can-do" attitude.
• Approach: Ability to act as a firm, fair, and caring role modelwho can work independently and as part of a dedicated team.
• Desirable: Experience working in an educational or social caresetting, previous work with families, or familiarity with SIMS.
