Job summary

Hillview School for Girls in Tonbridge, Kent, is seeking an enthusiastic Behaviour Support Assistant to join our friendly pastoral team. You will work with students to promote positive behaviour for learning and create a calm, nurturing environment where pupils can engage and progress.

Ideal candidates will have experience with young people and/or care sectors, a patient, resilient approach, and the ability to support individuals or groups in developing the necessary social and emotional skills

Qualifications

• Experience working with young people or in care/social care is preferred.
• Ability to provide individual or group support for students at risk of disengagement.
• Ability to maintain a positive, nurturing atmosphere to support learning.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and/or group support for students at risk of disengagement.
• Help students develop skills to exhibit positive behaviour for learning.
• Identify when a student is emotionally distressed and refer concerns to pastoral, safeguarding, or SEN staff.
• Support students in developing the necessary skills to overcome barriers to learning in the classroom.
• Contribute to reducing suspensions and raising attendance for identified students.

Responsibilities may vary but will include:

• To provide individual and/or group support or activities for students in danger of becoming disaffected or disengaged


• To support students in developing the necessary skills to overcome barriers to demonstrating positive behaviour for learning in the classroom


• Identify when a student is struggling emotionally and be able to support as necessary, referring relevant concerns to pastoral, safeguarding, SEN or specific staff where required


• To support students in developing the necessary skills to overcome barriers to demonstrating positive behaviour for learning in the classroom


• Maintaining a positive and nurturing atmosphere that supports all students to actively engage with learning and make positive progress


• To support the reduction of suspensions, isolations and the raising of attendance for identified students

Ideally, you will have experience of working with young people and/or within care/social care sectors.
