Job summary

The Bedford College Group is seeking a Student Engagement Officer to join our Student Services team at the Wellingborough Campus. You will promote positive behaviour, support students and monitor campus activities to foster a safe, inclusive learning environment.

This permanent, term-time role offers 37 hours per week across 36 weeks per year, with benefits including the People’s Pension, discount schemes and opportunities for professional development within a large education group.

Qualifications

• Holds Level 2 English and Maths qualifications.
• First Aid trained or willing to undertake training.
• Committed to ongoing professional development.
• Experience working with young people in education or youth work.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to motivate and support students from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Promote positive behaviour, punctuality, attendance and student engagement across campus, challenging inappropriate conduct.
• Provide guidance and support to students on behaviour and conduct issues and referrals.
• Monitor student spaces, support ID badge procedures, conduct campus checks and record interactions.
• Contribute to enrichment programmes and support wellbeing with staff across teams.
• Support safeguarding, equality and inclusion, and participate in professional development.

Role: Student Engagement Officer

Location: Tresham College – Wellingborough Campus

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £24,552 and £26,754 per annum (Pro-Rata) DOE and Qualifications, People’s Pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 36 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent – Term Time

About The Role

We are currently seeking a Student Engagement Officer to join our Student Services department at The Bedford College Group.

• Student Behaviour & Engagement - Promote positive behaviour, punctuality, attendance and student engagement across campus, challenging inappropriate conduct and encouraging students to uphold College values and expectations.
• Student Support & Intervention - Provide guidance and support to students on behaviour and conduct issues, identify learners who may need assistance, make referrals where appropriate, and help create a safe, inclusive and supportive college environment.
• Campus Supervision & Compliance - Monitor student social spaces and College facilities, support ID badge compliance procedures, conduct campus checks, and accurately record interventions and interactions using College systems.
• Enrichment, Wellbeing & Collaboration - Contribute to the enrichment programme through activities that support personal development, work closely with curriculum, safeguarding and estates teams, and act as a trained First Aider to support student wellbeing.
• Safeguarding, Professional Standards & Development - Support departmental objectives and KPIs, promote safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion, participate in ongoing professional development, and uphold College policies, procedures and values at all times.

About You

• Qualifications & Professional Development - Holds Level 2 English and Maths qualifications, is First Aid trained (or willing to undertake training), and is committed to gaining relevant professional qualifications and engaging in ongoing professional development.
• Student Engagement & Support Experience - Experienced in working with young people in education, youth work or similar settings, with the ability to motivate, empower and support students from diverse backgrounds while helping them manage behaviours and overcome barriers to learning.
• Communication, Relationships & Inclusive Practice - Demonstrates strong interpersonal, networking and communication skills, builds positive and professional relationships, signposts students to appropriate support services, and promotes equality, diversity and inclusion through a student-centred and non-judgemental approach.
• Behaviour Management, Administration & Problem Solving - Skilled in engaging and constructively challenging students, handling incidents calmly and effectively, maintaining accurate and secure records, using IT systems for administration, and supporting positive student participation and achievement.
• Teamwork, Flexibility & Safeguarding - Works collaboratively across departments, contributes positively to team objectives, supports colleagues during busy periods, is flexible in supporting events outside normal hours, and demonstrates a strong commitment to safeguarding, professional boundaries, and student wellbeing.
