The role holder will be working with a diverse range of students and a wide array of staff stakeholders across the institution. With students, they will be a local point of contact and guide, helping students to reflect on their student journey and how they, as individuals, feel they wish to develop as they progress through their University experience and within their academic school. Working independently, the role holder will identify groups and areas of risk in day-to-day processes from a student success perspective and develop approaches/recommendations to mitigate these; working with schools to test and implement any recommendations.

The role will be student centred, helping to ensure that our students have the fullest and most enriching experience of Leeds.
This role will be pivotal in assisting students to navigate the multitude of opportunities available to them at University. This will involve connecting students with the opportunities to explore and monitoring their progress against their development plan. It will therefore be important to work with students and services to ensure follow-through on the opportunities agreed within the development plan, such as academic skills workshops.
There is a data-driven element to this role which will help in the facilitation of personalised learning; within their school the role holder will lead the development and implementation of prioritisation matrix to proactively identify students who may benefit the most from creating action plans. Collaborating with senior stakeholders within schools and Educational Engagement, the role holder will develop an approach which balances School and Access and Student Success Strategic priorities.
This work will acknowledge the perspectives and lived experiences of each student to shape their own learning journey. The services provided through this role will be available to all students but will prioritise those who can benefit the most.
The post is also intended to support and complement the work of Academic Personal Tutors (APTs), working with students to help implement any recommendations made by APTs and ensuring that Student Development Plans are complementary. The role is an important way to develop trusting, caring, supporting relationships between staff and students, and is intended to work in concert with roles such as Academic Personal Tutors or Learning Advisors.
The role will partner closely with Learning Advisors based in the Learning Development Team (LDT); maintaining a knowledge base of opportunities on offer through the LDT and ensuring that students connect with these. In addition, the role will be able to liaise with the LDT to identify priority areas for student development within academic schools, providing local knowledge that can help Learning Advisors to tailor provision to the schools.
In order to provide informed advice, the role-holder will need to gain a familiarity with available pastoral support; with skills development practice both on School programmes of study (this could include awareness of the Leeds Capabilities Framework) and with academic, digital and professional skills support offered through existing routes outside of schools (such as the Learning Development Team’s Skills@Library service).
