Job summary

Cardiff Students' Union is hiring Student Advisers to provide free, confidential, impartial advice to students across academic, housing, finances, and wellbeing matters. The role involves face-to-face engagement, advocating for students, and supporting them through university procedures.

You will join a dedicated Student Advice team, work flexibly with full-time 35 hrs or part-time minimum 20 hrs, and help students achieve positive outcomes with professional, student-centred support.

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication and active listening skills are essential.
  • Ability to explain complex procedures clearly to students.
  • Experience in student services or welfare support is desirable.

Responsibilities

Are you passionate about supporting students and making a positive difference to their university experience? Cardiff Students' Union is looking for enthusiastic, empathetic, and motivated individuals to join our Student Advice team.

As a Student Adviser, you will play a vital role in providing free, confidential, impartial, and independent advice to students across a wide range of issues. Working as part of a dedicated team, you will empower students to understand their options, navigate university procedures, and access the support they need to achieve positive outcomes.

This is a rewarding role that involves regular face-to-face engagement with students, helping them address challenges relating to academic matters, housing, complaints, wellbeing, finances, employment, and other aspects of student life. You will also advocate on behalf of students where appropriate and support them through formal university processes and investigations.

What you'll be doing

As a Student Adviser, you will:

  • Provide high-quality advice, information, and guidance to Cardiff Students' Union members.
  • Support students to understand their options and make informed decisions regarding academic, housing, financial, consumer, employment, and social welfare issues.
  • Assist and accompany students through formal university procedures and investigations, including helping them prepare for hearings and panels where required.
  • Deliver advice and support in a timely, professional, and student-centred manner.
  • Build positive relationships with students and help them develop the confidence and knowledge needed to resolve issues effectively.
  • Coordinate the Student-Staff Enquiry Team and contribute to the delivery of key Student Advice campaigns throughout the academic year.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Students' Union and university to ensure students receive the best possible support.
