Job summary

Network Rail in London is seeking an Asset Engineer Structures to manage the condition and capacity of railway structures in the Southern Region. You will produce remits for maintenance, lead site visits during works, and ensure safety and reliability for passengers.

The role requires a Civil/Structural background, knowledge of safety and risk assessment, and progression toward professional registration; located at London Blackfriars with a Band 4C salary.

Qualifications

• BSc/BEng or equivalent in Civil/Structural Engineering.
• Substantial experience in structures or civil engineering.
• Knowledge of structures engineering policies and standards.
• Experience completing Structural Assessments for rail/bridges.
• Understanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques.
• Working towards membership of a relevant professional institution.
• Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer.
• Member of a relevant professional institution.

Responsibilities

• Identify and prioritise maintenance works for various structure types (bridges, culverts, walls).
• Prioritise actions using a risk scoring system within a constrained budget.
• Monitor structures where maintenance is not immediately possible (RCM).
• Collaborate with other disciplines to optimise engineering activities across railway infrastructure.
• Carry out structural assessments of railway structures.
• Review as-built drawings to understand layout and aid remittance prioritisation.
• Review new designs and challenge solutions with designers and project engineers.
