Job summary

Carrington West is seeking a Senior Civil Structures Engineer to support one of the UK's largest rail infrastructure programmes. You will review complex structural designs, provide expert engineering advice, and ensure designs meet required standards across approximately 350 structures.

The role focuses on structural engineering assurance, design review and delivering specialist guidance to delivery teams, contractors and designers within a multidisciplinary environment.

Qualifications

• Strong technical experience in civil structural engineering (8–12 years)
• Proven bridge design and/or structural assessment exposure
• Experience across bridges, viaducts, retaining walls and culverts
• Understanding of structural design principles, standards and assurance processes
• Ability to review designs, identify issues and provide practical recommendations
• Experience with multidisciplinary interfaces and collaboration with delivery teams
• Confident in communicating technical advice and challenging design decisions
• Risk-based approach to technical assurance and strong engineering judgement

Responsibilities

• Provide technical assurance across a portfolio of bridges and civil structures
• Review structural designs and drawings, identify issues and offer practical recommendations
• Advise delivery teams, contractors and designers on complex technical matters
• Support cross-disciplinary interfaces between civil structures and other disciplines
• Challenge technical decisions and provide expert engineering advice across major infrastructure projects
