Job summary

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with knowledge of related design codes and standards.
• Strong understanding of structural behaviour and first-principles engineering.
• Able to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and influence stakeholders.
• Passion for innovation, continuous improvement and solving complex technical challenges.
• Experience or interest in product development, R&D and construction innovation.

Responsibilities

• Develop innovative permanent works design solutions supporting advanced manufacturing, particularly preassembled reinforcement cage solutions.
• Lead and support technology and innovation initiatives aligning design and detailing with manufacturing requirements.
• Collaborate with Design Automation and Configuration teams to improve design efficiency and repeatability.
• Identify and develop new product opportunities for the Energy sector ensuring solutions are compliant, practical and manufacturable.
• Provide early-stage engineering input to embed Modern Methods of Construction into future green energy projects.
• Deliver structural engineering expertise across Technology & Innovation activities.
• Optimize permanent and temporary works solutions to support manufacturing facilities and project outcomes.
• Build strong relationships across clients, designers, suppliers and internal teams to drive innovation adoption.

Laing O'Rourke is looking for a Structural Product Development Engineer to join our team in Dartford, supporting the development of innovative structural solutions for the Sizewell C project.

This is a unique opportunity to be involved in one of the UK's largest and most complex construction programmes, helping to develop, improve and deliver engineered products and structural solutions that will play a key role in the future of nuclear infrastructure.

Working within a collaborative engineering environment, you'll contribute to the development, testing and optimisation of structural products, ensuring designs are practical, efficient and deliverable.

What will the role involve?

• Supporting the development of structural products and engineered solutions for major infrastructure projects
• Producing and reviewing engineering calculations, technical reports and design documentation
• Working closely with design, manufacturing and delivery teams to develop practical and efficient solutions
• Supporting product testing, validation and continuous improvement activities
• Identifying opportunities to improve product performance, quality and constructability
• Collaborating with stakeholders across engineering, manufacturing and project delivery functions
• Supporting innovation and modern methods of construction initiatives
• Ensuring designs comply with relevant standards, specifications and project requirements
• Contributing to technical problem-solving throughout the product lifecycle
  
  

What are we looking for?

• Degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related discipline
• Strong understanding of structural engineering principles
• Experience producing engineering calculations and technical documentation
• A problem-solving mindset with a keen eye for detail
• Ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders
• Strong communication and organisational skills
• An interest in innovation, product development and modern construction methods
• Experience within construction, manufacturing, infrastructure or engineering environments would be advantageous
